Very interesting, thanks. But I have to point out that the trattoria in Piazza Brin is Dar Moschino, rather than 'Il', where Moschino is a surname and so it translates as 'Moschino's Place'. Good old Romanesco. By the way, a little fly would be femminine and moschina ;)

Is the Garbatella a generally safe place to visit? I've found an apt there for the summer, but I'm not sure if it's the best idea.
We haved no crime stats, but our general impression, having lived nearby and walked a lot in Garbatella, including at night, is that it is a safe neighborhood. The only scary place we know of is the stairway below Piazza Brin, mentioned in the post. Perhaps readers will have a more nuanced answer to your question?? Bill and Dianne

I love Garbatella. I found a lovely pub called Why Not at Via Fincati,2.
I can practise my Italian, but the owner speaks English, too.

I have lived in Garbatella for ,any years and I can say it is a safe place to go around. Lots of families and students from the University "Roma tre". Check also Marè, great pizza and bread in Via Anna Maria Taigi and "L'acino Brillo" in Piazza Santa Eurosia nice food and good wine!
Just did this walk this morning and loved it! Such a fascinating area and changing all the time. Food market is now a farmers 'zero kilometre' market on Saturday and Sunday, and the furniture shop/public baths is back in the hands of the council and now a walk in library community space. Thank you for your inspiring posts and books.
Thanks, Rebecca! We wandered around Garbatella today. The "Farmers Market" is indeed quite nice. We loved the truly artiginale stands and the light inside. We peeked inside the baths now library (closed for the Ponte weekend) and it looks lovely as well. We appreciate your bringing this up-to-date.
